Been a hot minute.

For the past few months, I’ve been getting to know more about the coffee scene here after moving back to Probolinggo and getting more acquainted with the place here. Actually, a full year has passed since I moved back. The coffee scene here seems to be propelled by the network and relationship this city has with the roots of Robusta being brought and cultivated by the colonial dutch.

Two main producing areas within this city (and outer region):

  • Bromo Tengger
  • Argopuro Krucil

These two areas have coffee plantations from beyond back in the scene, and it has somewhat led to the current (most recent boom) that the city has followed with the third wave coffee scene.

// TODO:

  • Describe story line on helping out with road side selling
  • What it’s like to brew for customers compared to home brewing
  • Challenges and things to explore when brewing coffee

Overall, my final note on the scene here is that it may continously be a heritage for coffee to be a part of the city, since its colonial times. Before this third wave hitting Probolinggo, most of these farms supplied Robusta to the commodity and commercial markets - but now, brave new methods of producing the harvest and the drive from the competition within the Indonesian coffee industry has led to the city sprawling in life with coffee.

The city and the people that live here can be noted to be a seasonal type of behaviour (following latest trends), but I do feel that coffee here will be long lasting and may become its backside identity sooner or later.
